There are so many reason people commit crime and keeping people safe requires a multi-prong approach. When I served as Chief of Staff for Councilwoman Exum we had record low crime and I know we can get back to those levels.
There are multiple ways to combat crime and many reasons why people commit crime. To combat crime we must put people to work, ensure that we have adequate mental health services for those who need it and increase the number of diversionary programs for non-violent offenders.
Police officers belong in communities not schools. We need to place our Sheriff Deputies back in the school system and put the police officers back into the communities on the streets where they belong. police from schools and have them redirected to the community oriented policing.
One of the first bills I will introduce will be to mandate the payment of the adequate public facilities fees. This payment is used to pay for the increase public safety needs that come from new development. Waiving this fee can jeopardize our ability to keep you safe. By mandating this fee we can ensure that we have more cadet classes for our law enforcement officers and fire and ems.
