We all benefit from an educated society which is why sixty-two cents out every tax dollar goes to the Board of Education. Even with that our school system has lagged behind comparable jurisdictions. Once money goes to the Board the Council has very little authority; for this reason, I will create aggressive audits of the money that goes to the Board. We need more accountability the money we are spending. I will work the state and the Board to ensue that our education dollars are delivering for us. The reality is we cannot place the entire burden of educating our children on teachers.
As councilmember, I will focus heavily on creating more library programs for K-12 education and our community colleges. I would take the opportunity to advance programs that would encourage students to read more outside of school. Finally, will leverage the resources from Maryland National Capital Parks and Planning (MNCPP) to encourage collaborations with library systems, sports leagues, businesses and community groups to bring education outside of the classroom into everyday life.
